Growing in Sport!   Growing in Faith!

  Feature Athlete Bio

Growing in Sport:

Matt has been involved in sports since his elementary days. His many athletic endeavors including skate boarding and snow boarding lead naturally to wakeboarding. Matt learned to wakeboard at the age of 12 behind a fish & ski boat with an outboard motor - not exactly the perfect set-up but it was a start! He entered his 1st Wakeboard competition that summer just to get a ride behind the Mastercraft X-Star. After an answer of prayer by his parents to find a Christian Ski Club, he joined WOW in 2004. Matt landed his 1st 360 in WOW behind Kevin's Wakesetter. Now we're talkin'! After two seasons of WOW, Matt was asked to join WOW's 'Young Leaders' Team growing deeper in sport and faith and helping the younger kids do the same. He has a heart to give back to kids what was given to him in his 1st years at WOW. He is as natural at coaching and relating to the younger kids of WOW as he was to wakeboarding and other sports. Matt continues to grow in sport during the winter months by snowboarding and working out in the gym. He also enjoys God's creation in the "Great Outdoors" hunting duck, pheasant and goose with his older brother and dad.

Growing in Faith:

Matt has grown up in a Christian home, learning about God from his parents and church family. Matt attended a Christian summer camp at age 9 and made a personal commitment to follow Christ while at camp. Matt attended a Christian School for a few years where he met his best friend, Jostin. Now both attend a public school and are accountable to each other to stand strong for God's Principals of Truth, Integrity, and following the Ten Commandments. Matt prefers small group ministry settings over large groups. The WOW setting is just that -- you get to be with a group of 10-15 guys and learn from each other and the WOW leadership team how to strive to be Christ-like. Matt has grown in faith by volunteering at WOW, studying the WOW lessons and teaching the younger kids, and having an accountability buddy. Matt & Jostin volunteer as a team at WOW and study their WOW lessons together. Having Christian friends is important to Matt and helps him to make 'God honoring' choices when tempted. Matt attends church at Wooddale with his family and looks forward to growing deeper in faith this summer with WOW.
