First WOW group, 1999

Walk On Water History

WOW began in the summer of 1999 in Victoria, Minnesota. God’s prompting moved five adults to use water sports to disciple young people in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Working with one boat in a back yard, WOW ventured out to make an impact on a group of youth living in a community that had the highest teen-suicide in the nation. Since it's inception, WOW has expanded it's outreach and discipleship into four states and enjoys a network of friends across the country who all share the love of Christ to youth through their passion of water sports.

It is our desire to help young people discover how God has created them each uniquely gifted to be a part of their community to share the love God has for His people. We strive to instill values of honesty, integrity, and responsibility. It is our goal to have each youth realize that they are important and were created for a purpose that can be best understood by seeking God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength (Jeremiah 29:13, Matthew 22:37).

Megan, who was one of the original twelve youth in WOW is now 21 years old and will, with a team of others, host her own WOW group this year. WOW aims to equip people like Megan to use their God-given talents and water sports passion to mentor young people.

After seven years, WOW has seen the effects of Jesus's model of pouring time and care into a small group of people. Rather than add more people to a group, WOW has added more groups each year.
